Case study: migrating a manufacturing group's legacy ERP to AWS

How re-architecting a monolith into microservices cut server infrastructure costs by 45%.

Many manufacturers still run on-premise ERP systems built years ago. As maintenance costs climb and every incident takes longer to resolve, moving to the cloud becomes a pressing issue. This article shares how we migrated a manufacturing group's legacy ERP to AWS.

From monolith to microservices

Rather than moving the whole system as it was, we split the monolithic architecture into microservices in stages. Each part moved to AWS only once its testing was complete, keeping the risk to ongoing production operations to a minimum.

A Japanese PM managed the migration plan and acceptance testing directly, making sure every change was clearly agreed with the client before rollout.

Splitting the system into smaller services also meant each one could be scaled and updated independently, rather than sizing server resources for the whole system around peak load. As a result, the new architecture cut server infrastructure costs by 45% and gave the business a foundation that is easier to extend and maintain.
